My Three Causes of Happiness

What is left of a life without happiness? 'Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence' said Aristotle. Though the standard of happiness varies from person to person, it seems obvious that we all live for happiness. It is fundamentally impossible to agree on absolute causes of happiness since every person has different sets of views and values. Then, it occurs to me what makes me happy. Among various factors of life, I have chosen three: family, friendship, and the feeling of accomplishment.

First and foremost, family makes me happy. Every human being seeks for love and family provides unconditional love under any circumstances.  One faces many difficulties through life and he needs someone to depend on in times of need. He may turn to different people for help but eventually will find out that it is the family who truly gives love with no string attached. Family's love is not only unconditional but unyielding as well. Others may turn away from me when I make mistakes but family will rather understand and wait for me. I simply cannot think of happiness without my family and thus family is the very essential part of happiness for me.

Friendship also plays a huge role in happiness. William Shakespeare once said, 'A friend is one that knows you as you are, understands where you have been, accepts what you have become, and still, gently allows you to grow'. Human is a social being and he grows through social interactions.  Good friends not only entertain me but help me become a better being. Moreover, just like family, they love me for who I am. Even in times of hardships, they support and stand beside me for we are friends. It is a blessing to have friends who share with me delight and sorrow alike. Therefore, I believe friendship is an integral part of happiness as well.

Last but not least, the feeling of accomplishment makes me happy. The feeling of accomplishment does not have to come from achieving a striking result. Sometimes the feeling comes from matters as trivial as finishing my work in time or losing weight. Though they may not sound much important at first, when accumulated, they make up what I am and lead me to my goals. It is a pleasure to see myself accomplish little things step by step and progress forward. That is, achieving trivial but meaningful goals is a path to greater happiness.

In conclusion, among many other factors of happiness, I believe family, friendship and the feeling of accomplishment are the three indispensable ones for me. Family and friends are similar in that they make me happy through love and support. On the other hand, the feeling of accomplishment has more to do with myself marching to happiness. Those three are what keep happiness in my reach.

Causes of Happiness- My Three Causes of Happiness

Hi, I found your writing very interesting and please let me give you my feedback^^!

    1. I think the introduction includes a general thesis about the causes and effect. And these two sentences are the statement; ‘Then, it occurs to me what makes me happy. Among various factors of life, I have chosen three: family, friendship, and the feeling of accomplishment.’

    2. Each body paragraph seems to have a corresponding topic sentence which defines a specific cause. In the first body paragraph, the topic sentence is ‘First and foremost, family makes me happy.’ In the second body paragraph, the topic sentence is ‘Friendship also plays a huge role in happiness.’ And in the last body paragraph, the topic sentence is ‘Last but not least, the feeling of accomplishment makes me happy.’

    3. I think there are logical explanations related to the causes. First, family is explained to bring happiness to the writer because it provides unconditional love in any circumstance. Second, friendship is explained to give happiness because friends help the writer to become a better being as well as support in times of hardships and share delight and sorrow. Finally the feeling of accomplishment is explained to provide happiness because when the accomplishments are accumulated, they lead the writer to his goals as well as make up who he is.

    4. I could find several connectors that show cause and effect. For example, in the first body paragraph, I can see ‘thus’ in the sentence ‘I simply cannot think of happiness without my family and thus family is the very essential part of happiness for me.’ And in the second body paragraph, there is ‘therefore’ in the sentence ‘It is a blessing to have friends who share with me delight and sorrow alike. Therefore, I believe friendship is an integral part of happiness as well.’

    5. There is a part that restates the causes. That is ‘In conclusion, among many other factors of happiness, I believe family, friendship and the feeling of accomplishment are the three indispensable ones for me.’

    6. In the conclusion, I think there is a reflection related to the causes. That is ‘Family and friends are similar in that they make me happy through love and support. On the other hand, the feeling of accomplishment has more to do with myself marching to happiness. Those three are what keep happiness in my reach.’

    Thank you^^*!

Last but not least, the feeling of accomplishment makes me happy. The feeling of accomplishment does not have to come from achieving a splendid goal. Sometimes the feeling comes from matters as trivial as finishing assignments in time or losing weight.
